**The goal of this festival is to be the premier educational festival in California**

All of our judges are seasoned, reputable adjudicators and educators that understand the educational aspects of judging.
Unlike other festivals, all of our judges will be grading captions in their areas of expertise, and will provide quality feedback that will assist directors and students in the educational process.

Dr. John Carnahan
Music- Parade and Field
CSU, Long Beach
 Director of Bands and Music Department Chair at CSU Long Beach, John was previously Assistant Director of Bands at University of Texas, Arlington. Among his many credits, he just finished conducting the 2005 California High School All-State Band. John is a wonderful musician who is in high demand nationally for adjudication, lecturing, and conducting. John is one of the most respected judges in music today, and has judged in most majors circuits throughout the U.S.

Bill Barbour
Music- Parade and Field
Clovis Unified Schools
 Bill is a successful, well respected educator, clinician, and writer throughout the U.S. With over 25 years experience judging in circuits throughout the U.S. including DCI, Bill is one of the top music adjudicators in the activity today. Among his many past experiences, he was formerly the Director of Bands at Clovis High School, and the former director of the CSU, Fresno Marching Band. An outstanding director and arranger, Bill provides some of the finest and useful judges feedback in the US.

Professor Anthony LaBounty

University of Nevada, Las Vegas
Anthony LaBounty is Associate Director of Bands at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas where he directs among other ensembles the UNLV "Star of Nevada" Marching Band. In his 16th year as a member of the department of music faculty, he has helped develop the UNLV Bands to become one of the finest collegiate band programs in the nation. In addition to his duties with the bands at UNLV, he is an active clinician and adjudicator throughout the United States.

Michael Turner

Concord Blue Devils
Michael has over 30 years experience at the top of the pageantry activity, including over 14 years as color guard choreographer for the Madison Scouts (1980-1992) and 4 years with the Santa Clara Vanguard (1993-1997). In addition to several years as adjudicator for Bands of America, he has judged for Winter Guard International for over a decade and recently served as their judges' task force Movement Caption Facilitator. Currently, Michael is the General Manager and Production Coordinator for the Concord Blue Devils' latest venture, "BD Entertainment."

Jaime Holly

Jamie's Marching Career started with the Concord Blue Devils "B" Corps in 1989, moving to the World-Champion "A" Corps in 1991-1993. Jamie has remained a part of the organization as visual staff for the "A" Corps. Before rejoining the Blue Devils in 1997, Jamie spent three years on the visual staff with the Blue Coats Drum and Bugle Corps. Jaime is also currently the visual caption head and designer for several award winning high schools, and independent non-profit organizations in DCI, and WGI. During his off time he travels the country judging and giving various clinics for both students and instructors. In addition to the Blue Devils and Bluecoats, some of the groups he has worked with are: Arizona Academy Drum and Bugle Corps, Mystikal Drum and Bugle Corps, The Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps, Buchanan High School, James Logan High School, Upland High School, Valley View High School, Clovis West High School, Freelancers Indoor Drumline, Black Knights Winter Drumline, and the Soka Renaissance Vanguard from Tokyo, Japan. Jaime currently lives in Southern California with his fiancé Rebekah, where he is a full time designer and instructor.

Mike Zerbini

Santa Clara Vanguard
Mike Zerbini has been involved in marching bands and drum corps for over 20 years. Since 1992, Mike has been a staff member in the Santa Clara Vanguard organization- first as visual staff in the Cadet Corps, then as visual caption head of the Cadet Corps. Then 1997-2004 Mike was on staff with the Santa Clara Vanguard "A" Corps- until going back to the Cadet Corps in 2005 to be visual caption head. In total, Mike has been an instructor with the Santa Clara organization for 14 years. Mike is also the Visual Caption head and Design Team Coordinator at Oak Grove High School. In addition, he is currently the drill designer for Independence High School in San Jose, CA, and West High School in Bakersfield, CA.

Chris Uchibori
Marching/Visual- Parade, Music- Field
Redbluff Union School District
Chris Uchibori has been a successful music educator for the past 32 years in California, Texas, and Hawaii. Mr. Uchibori is the past coordinator of the Monterey Jazz Festival's California High School Jazz Band and combos under Jimmy Lyons who was the founder of the Monterey Jazz Festival. He was also a adjudicator for the Monterey Jazz Festival, California Music Educators Association, Northern California Band Association, Texas Music Educators Association, American String Teacher's Association, and the Hawaii Music Educators Association.

Kevin Davis
Drum Majors- Parade and Field
CSU, Fresno
Kevin is an expert in the category of Drum Majors. For the past 10 years, Kevin has taught some of the finest drum majors in the state. In addition, Kevin is a past Assistant Director of the Fresno State Bulldog Marching Band. He has a Masters Degree in Conducting, as is a fine musician in addition to his drum major expertise.

CONCERT and JAZZ JUDGES:

Dr. Lawrence R Sutherland
Music-Jazz and Concert
CSU, Fresno
Dr. Sutherland is the Director of Bands at CSU Fresno. His duties include conducting the award-winning Wind Ensemble, as well as teach other courses in conducting and music education. Sutherland has performing credits as a trombone and euphonium player with the St., Louis Symphony, the Kansas City Philharmonic Orchestra, the Tulsa Philharmonic Orchestra and Tucson Symphony, Fresno Philharmonic and the Tommy Dorsey, Ralph Marterie, Richard Maltby, and Woody Herman bands. He is the only person to have conducted all three California All-State Groups: Jazz Band, Wind Ensemble, and Orchestra. He is one of the most experienced and qualified adjudicators in the country.

Dr. Rob Klevan
Music- Jazz/Concert
UC Santa Cruz / The Monterey Jazz Festival
Rob is currently President of California Music Educators Association.
Director of the Wind Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble at UCSC, he was previously the music director at Robert Louis Stevenson High School in Pebble Beach. In addition to his duties at UCSC, he is the Director of Education for the Monterey Jazz Festival.

Professor Dale Engstrom
Music- Jazz/Concert
Fresno City College
Dale Engstrom is a music instructor at Fresno City College. Before his time at Fresno City College, Dale was the Music Director at Kingsburg High School. He continues to play trumpet professionally in the Central Valley of California and Reno areas as well as maintaining an active schedule as a judge and clinician. He has performed with such noted artists Johnny Mathis, Mel Torme, Red Skelton, Henry Mancini, The Temptations, Frankie Vallie, The Four Tops, Kenny Rogers, Natalie Cole and many others.
